Making jam in summer season is therapeutic for me. It begins with prepping the fruit, a process I often take to the again deck the place I can watch the children play and multitask in essentially the most relaxed of how. Then I put a big pot of water on to boil, and because it gurgles on the range, I pad across the kitchen, gathering substances and instruments, grateful for the time and area for the duty at hand. I really feel a connection – to meals tradition, to the previous, to the numerous homemakers earlier than me who “put up” each summer season. The fruit below my fingers is ripe, aromatic and deserving of respect. The method is acquainted and but nonetheless thrilling. As the finished jam jars relaxation on the counter, I get the sense of satisfaction- a job effectively completed.
