  • Just cooked up some burritos to take on our family camping trip tomorrow from brown eggs. Thanks!

  • We eat instant oatmeal and beef jerkey….since my hubby thinks the only kind of camping is deep in the backcountry we don’t hike with lots of food! Maybe if I promised a spread like this he’d be more willing to camp near the car…just once! 😉

  • @lettyskitchen This is True.

  • We always do walking tacos for our first night. This time we tried a foil packet meal – beef patty, potatoes, onions, carrots, bell peppers – it was so easy and delicious. We usually make a big pot of oatmeal for breakfast. Lunch is a hodgepodge of whatever we have.

  • @vanessa.strickland Oh can’t wait for local sweet corn.

  • Nothing beats a fresh caught salmon wrapped in a packet with lemon, butter and garlic! Of course, you have to catch it first 😬

  • We usually car-camp (sleeping in a tent like you) for two nights at a time… always hot dogs/sausages/corn if it’s summertime on the fire one night because everyone feels like that is “the” camp food. We generally mix it up for the other night. One of the biggest hits for when we went with a big group was spaghetti night! Bring a jar of good or homemade sauce to a simmer along with a jar of water and a little salt then cook the noodles directly in the sauce… cook a couple sausages over the fire and slice for anyone who wants to add, plus a salad 👌. We’re going again next weekend and I’m pregnant for the third time and red sauce gives me major heart burn so I’m still scheming for the second night dinner… probably steaks if I can get some for a decent price marinated in a pineapple soy marinade and Yukon golds par boiled + chopped, wrapped in foil with oil/butter/garlic/parsley to through on the fire. I always take ready-made packed lunches. We have done varied and more complex breakfasts, but when we went in April I just took a jar of oats (half instant, half rolled), dried fruit, butter, and honey for the oats and a container of soft boiled eggs. It got the job done ✅

  • That plaid thermos! In the 1950’s my family had a picnic set – plaid bag, thermos and a box for sandwiches. Is yours “vintage” or rather new?

  • Home cooked beans for tacos, fixings in packets. Good sausages to go with day 2 of beans. Hummus for breakfast.

  • @la.bellebee Agree! Or trout.

  • @kranous Same!!

  • @lbbyeayouknowme sounds like great camp food. Corn is essential. I’m testing a pasta cooked in milk that becomes sauce with added cheese situation….it might get added to our menu.
